Class 6 – Week 3

Soooo, this week I’ve been wrapping up the polish for the “Murderess” and “Ruaj” shots. Most of the time I’ve been trying to make the face more organic and connected, and I’ve also pushed some expressions so that they were easier to read. Furthermore, I found the line that will be my new animation. My mentor wanted me to do something very very physical, and I feel that this line has plenty of room for that. You can listen to it at the end of the .mov file. I’ll be back next week with some more polish for other shots, and the videoreference and planning for the new one, which will be called “Raid!”
Esta semana he estado finiquitando el polish para las animaciones de “Murderess” y “Ruaj”. La mayor parte del tiempo he estado trabajando en hacer que la cara esté más conectada, y también en exagerar expresiones para que se lean mejor. Además, he encontrado la nueva línea de diálogo con la que trabajaré mi próxima animación. Mi mentor quería que hiciese algo muy físico, y creo que esta línea tiene mucho espacio para eso. Podéis escucharla al final de estas dos animaciones. Volveré la semana que viene con más polish para otras animaciones, y con la videorerefencia y el planning para la nueva, que se llamará “Redada”.

Class 5 – Week 5

Yep! We have finally started with our last animation in Animation Mentor! I’m really excited about this last piece. It’s being a hilarious job animating this slap and all the facial expressions for the guy. This week, rather than diving into Maya from the beginning, we have been rerecording our videoreference, trying some new things and drawing out the usual sketches in order to study body movements and lipsync.
¡Sí! Ya hemos comenzado la última animación en Animation Mentor. Estoy particularmente emocionado con esta última pieza. Está siendo un trabajo desternillante animar esa bofetada y todas las expresiones faciales para el chico. Esta semana, más que lanzarnos a Maya desde el principio, hemos estado regrabando nuestra videoreferencia, probando cosas nuevas y dibujando los típicos sketches para estudiar los movimientos corporales y el lipsync.
Then, most of us have been creating a simple stage and some props for our characters to interact with. Moreover, we have set up a basic layout, which was the main objective for this week. The layout consists of setting up all the cameras, cuts, composition, distance and interaction between characters so that you make sure that’s the best way to tell the story before you start animating. Here you can have a look at my layout with some basic poses. And yeah, animating that slap is proving to be really really fun!
Después, la mayoría de nosotros hemos tenido que crear un pequeño decorado y algunos objetos con los que nuestros personajes van a interactuar y también configurar el layout, que era el principal objetivo de esta semana. El layout consiste en colocar todas las cámaras con sus cortes, cuidando la composición, la distancia y la interacción entre los diferentes personajes asegurándote de que esta es la mejor forma de contar la historia antes de comenzar a animar. Aquí podéis echar un vistazo a mi layout con algunas poses básicas. Y sí, ¡animar esa bofetada está resultando ser lo más divertido de todo!

Class 4 – Week 1

We are BACK! And now, it’s when the fun begins as we are starting Introduction to Acting! This term we are going to have to work on two shots only. The first one, which I’ve been planning this week, is a pantomime shot that has to show the change and contrast between two different emotions. I have been exploring different ideas and I decided that the best one was number 1. You can watch all three ideas I worked on right here.
¡Estamos de vuelta! Y ahora, es cuando comienza lo bueno ya que empezamos la Introducción al Acting. En este trimestre vamos a tener que trabajar sólo en dos tomas. La primera, la cual he estado planeando esta semana, es una pantomima en la cual se tiene que mostrar el cambio y el contraste entre dos emociones diferentes. He estado explorando diferentes ideas y he decidido que la mejor es la número 1. Podéis ver las tres ideas en las que he trabajado aquí mismo.
I studied my videoreference and prepared the stage and planning sketches to better analyze the action and what was going on in the shot. Planning is veeeeeeery very important for animation!
Estudié mi videoreferencia y preparé el escenario y los sketches de planificación para analizar mejor los movimientos y lo que ocurría. ¡Preparar tus tomas antes de lanzarse al ordenador es muy muuuuy importante!
Last but not least, my mentor for this amazing term will be Melanie Cordan. She has worked in movies such as Toy Story 2, How to train your dragon, Robots, Shrek 3, Kung Fu Panda 2 and many more, so I’m sure I will learn a ton with her! I’ll have to wake up all Wednesdays at 5am for her Q&As but it’s no biggie!
I’ll be back next week with the blocking for Stewie, the Commander!
Por último, mi mentora para este trimestre será Melanie Cordan. Ha trabajado en películas como Toy Story 2, Cómo entrenar a tu dragón, Robots, Shrek 3, Kung Fu Panda 2 y muchas más, así que estoy seguro de que aprenderé mucho con ella. Tendré que despertarme todos los miércoles a las 5am para sus clases pero estoy seguro que merecerá la pena.
¡Estaré de vuelta la semana que viene con el blocking para Stewie, el Comandante!

Class 3 – Week 7

I’ve just uploaded my assignments for this hectic week! It’s been crazy! As you know not only did we have to finish polishing the last shot but we also had to plan the next one, which will be the last one for this Body Mechanics term and then we’ll start with Acting!
Here you have my polish pass, there are some issues I still want to address, specifically about the way he falls down.
Acabo de subir mis assignments para esta semana tan ocupada. ¡Ha sido una locura! Como sabréis, no sólo teníamos que terminar de pulir la última animación sino que también teníamos que preparar la siguiente, que será la última para este trimestre de Mecánica del Cuerpo y después comenzaremos con Acting.
Aquí tenéis el polish pass, hay algunos problemas que todavía quiero retocar, especialmente en la manera en la que se cae.
For the next shot, Stewie will appear in the vault of the museum and he will try to lift a very heavy and antique relic but it will eventually fall down because it is really heavy. Here you have the planning sketches and the videoreference for the shot!
Para la próxima toma, Stewie aparecerá en la cámara del museo e intentará coger una antigua reliquia muy pesada pero que se acabará cayendo por su peso. Aquí tenéis los sketches de planning y la videoreferencia para esta shot.

Class 2 – Week 7

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW! Yeah! Week 7 is finished and with it, my last shot! Here you have it to check it out! This week I have worked a lot on polishing the very last flip and the roll at the end also. I exaggerated some positions as my mentor suggested!
¡A BAILAR TODO EL MUNDO! La semana 7 ha acabado y con ella, mi última toma. Aquí la tenéis para echarle un vistazo. Esta semana he trabajado mucho puliendo la voltereta en el aire del final y el roll en el suelo. He exagerado también algunas posiciones como sugirió mi mentor.

Class 2 – Week 4

Who wouldn’t want to be tangled in that hair? Yeeeeeeey! I’m so going to see “Tangled” next weekend at last! It’s been ages since they released it in USA but, as usual, we have to wait 4 months until they release it here. Any way, I’ve finished my 180º turn animation! This is the final pass and I’m quite happy with it. Here you have it!
¿A quién no le gustaría estar enredado en ese pelo? Yeaaaaaaaaaaah! ¡Este próximo finde me voy a ver “Enredados”! Hace años que la han estrenado ya en USA pero, como es normal, aquí tenemos que esperar 4 meses para todo. ¡He terminado mi animación del giro de 180º! Este es el pase final y estoy bastante contento con él. ¡Aquí lo tenéis para echarle un vistazo!
As well, I’ve been working on planning my next shot, which I’ll be animating for the next 3 weeks and which is going to be very fast and dynamic because it deals with parkouuuuuuuur! It’s going to be one hell of a ride! But it doesn’t matter, I know I’m going to learn tons with it, besides it’s going to be my first “fast-motion” animation as all the previous ones I did were slow.
As every good animator does, I’ve been looking for tons of videoreference in YouTube and I’ve selected the ones that suited my needs better. Here you have it in case you want to check them out and you can have a look as well as the planning sketches. Next week, you’ll be able to see my first blocking pass for the parkour shot!
También he estado trabajando en preparar mi próxima toma, que estaré animando las próximas tres semanas y que va a ser algo muy dinámico y rápido porque es parkouuuuuuuuuur! ¡Va a ser una gran experiencia! Pero no importa, creo que voy a aprender un montón animando este plano y además va a ser la primera vez que voy a animar un movimiento rápido, ya que los anteriores que hice eran todos bastante lentos.
Como hace todo buen animador, he estado buscando videoreferencia en YouTube y he seleccionado las que más me gustaban y se adaptaban a lo que quería. Aquí las tenéis en caso de que queráis echarle un vistazo así cómo los sketches de planificación. La próxima semana podréis ver mi primer pase de blocking.
