Anyway, frames speak louder than words so here you have my animations for this fourth week in Animation Mentor. This week our assignment consisted of a heavy and a light ball bouncing. The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to convey different weights just by the correct use of timing and spacing in animation, two of the twelve key principles of animation.

¡Hola genteeee! Siento no haber escrito ayer. Llevamos un ritmo muy muy frenético en AM. De todas maneras, unos fotogramas valen más que mil palabras así que aquí os dejo con las animaciones para esta cuarta semana en Animation Mentor. Esta semana nuestro assignment consistía en una pelota pesada y en otra más light. El objetivo del ejercicio es aprender como mostrar diferentes pesos simplemente con el correcto uso del timing y el spacing, que son dos de los doce principios fundamentales de la animación.

The assignment of week 5 is going to be so much fuuuuuuuun!

El assignment de esta semana 5 va a ser muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuy divertido.

My very first animation in AM! The great bouncing ball! I hope you guys like it. This week has been very very busy for all of us in Class 1. Not only did we have to animate our first bouncing ball with a 100-frame limit but we also had to go out and draw poses under the topic of EXCITEMENT. Then, choosing one of those excitement poses, we had to pose Stu in one of them. I couldn’t decide between number 9 and 11 so I ended up with two Stus. The official one that I sent for the ecritique is the one where Stu is kneeling.

¡Mi primera animación! ¡La gran bouncing ball! Espero que os guste. Esta semana ha sido muy dura para todos nosotros en la Class 1. No sólo teníamos que animar nuestra primera bouncing ball con un límite de 100 frames, también teníamos que dibujar poses con el tema de ENTUSIASMO. Después, seleccionamos una de estas poses y ponemos a Stu en ella. No podía decidir si me gustaba más la 9 ó la 11 así que acabé con los dos Stus. La oficial que he enviado para la ecritique es en la que Stu está arrodillado.

This week, I also watched “Despicable me!” and “How to train your dragon” in the cinema and at home respectively. Both are great films and both made me laugh and cry, so go and see them right now! I need to get some rest before I start animating more bouncing balls again, so I leave you here both trailers for those movies. Happy week for all of you and thanks for reading!

Esta semana también he visto “Gru, mi villano favorito” y “Cómo entrenar a tu dragón” en el cine y en casa respectivamente. Ambas son grandes pelis y ambas me hicieron reir y llorar, así que, ¡id a verlas ahora mismo! Necesito descansar un poco antes de volver a animar pelotas de nuevo, así que os dejo aquí con los dos trailers de estas pelis. ¡Feliz semana a todos y gracias por leerme!

This week we were asked to animate a bouncing ball and then a robot arm that had to pick up a can and leave it on a platform.

So here they are! The robot arm is in blocking and stepped mode, which is the first step in animation and consists of adding the main and key poses only. The next week I’ll smooth it out and add a lot of tweaks and details! Let me know what you think!

¡Hola chicos! El post de esta semana va a ser bastante corto pues estoy de vacaciones en Menorca (mi única semana de vacaciones) y no quiero escribir mucho

Esta semana hemos animado una pelota botando y después una especie de brazo de robot que tenía que coger una lata y ponerla en una plataforma.

Aquí los tenéis. El brazo del robot está en “blocking“, que es la primera fase de animación y que consiste en poner sólo las poses principales. La semana que viene nos toca trabajar en suavizar y limpiar la animación y añadir detalles. ¡Decidme que os parece!

This week we got started in AM with the cool part! ANIMATION! These two videos are the assignments we had. The first one was to create a simple ball moving in whatever way we wanted to, but I decided to go for a bouncing ball.

¡Queridos extraños del espacio! ¿Cómo os va esta semana? Estoy solito en casa toda la semana y creo que esto de fregar con Muse a todo volumen se va a volver uno de mis hobbies favoritos :O

Esta semana comenzamos en AM con la parte interesante. ¡ANIMACIÓN! Estos dos vídeos son los deberes que tuvimos. El primero era crear una simple esfera moviéndose en cualquier forma que quisiéramos, aunque a mi me dió por hacer una pelota botando.

The second one is supposed to be a ball describing a perfect circular path.

La segunda se supone que es una esfera describiendo un movimiento circular perfecto.

We have already learnt pretty much everything we need to know to get started with the real classes, that’s why, from now on, I’m going to devote 3 hours a day to practice sketching poses. Draw! Draw! Draw!

The next week I’ll be writing the following post from Menorca! I’ll go there for one week of holidays with my family, though I’ll keep on animating!

Until then I leave you with one of my favourite animated scenes. It’s from the movie “The Incredibles” (which I hope you all have already seen, otherwise don’t dare to speak with me ). To me, the strongest point in this scene is the incredible score by Michael Giacchino, how it increases the tension, how Mr. Incredible puts all the pieces together, how Elastigirl discovers the truth about his husband, and how everything fits together in the final and perfect climax. Just pay attention to how the music governs the scene. A true masterpiece!

Básicamente ya hemos aprendido casi todo lo que necesitamos saber para empezar con las clases de verdad. Es por ello que a partir de ahora voy a dedicar 3 horas al día a dibujar poses. ¡Dibujar, dibujar, dibujar!

La semana que viene estaré escribiendo el próximo post desde Menorca. Me voy allí durante una semana de vacaciones con mi familia, aunque seguiré animando

Hasta entonces os dejo con una de mis escenas animadas preferidas. Es de la película “Los Increíbles” (la cual espero que todos hayáis visto, de lo contrario no os atreváis a hablar conmigo ). Para mí, lo mejor de la escena es la increíble composición musical de Michael Giacchino, cómo hace que suba la tensión, como Mr. Increíble va entendiendo todo, como Elastigirl descubre la verdad acerca de su marido, y como todo se une para crear un perfecto clímax final. Prestad atención a cómo la música gobierna toda la secuencia. ¡Una obra maestra!
