Class 3 – Week 12 – Progress Reel

BANANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Erm… I mean… PROGRESS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! Here it is! My first 9 months in the animation world! I’m very excited with my progress so far but this term I’ve come to the conclusion that I still have zillions of things to learn! I want to thank all my AM peers and my 3 awesome mentors: Dimos Vrysellas, Jay Davis and Shaun Freeman for all the help, encouragement and good laughs they have granted me this three terms! I can’t wait for the next 9 months of Animation Mentor… and… get ready because we are starting with ACTINGGGGGGGGGGGG! Here we go!

Estoy muy contento con el progreso que he hecho hasta el momento aunque he llegado a la conclusión de que todavía me quedan tropecientas cosas por aprender. Quiero agradecer a todos mis compañeros de AM y a mis tres mentores de momento: Dimos Vrysellas, Jay Davis y Shaun Freeman por toda la ayuda, aliento y buenas risas que me han brindado estos tres trimestres. No puedo esperar por los 9 meses siguientes de Animation Mentor… y… preparáos porque empezamos con ACTINGGGGGGGGG. ¡Allá vamos!

Class 3 – Week 11

I’ve just uploaded my last assignment for this third term! Wow, we are halfway through the program! 3 more terms to go! I’ve tweaked the end a little bit, the way he lets go of it and some minor things here and there. Now it’s time to start brainstorming and looking for cool dialogues in TV series and movies in order to animate them the next two terms! This is going to be aaaaamaaaazing! Thanks everyone for all your help and support throughout this term! I’ll have my progress reel ready for the next week.
Acabo de subir mi última animación para este trimestre. Wow, estamos en la mitad del curso. Tres trimestres más para que se acabe. Esta semana, he retocado el final un poco, la manera en la que deja caer el objeto y algunas pequeñas cosas aquí y allí. Ahora es tiempo de empezar a hacer brainstorming y buscar diálogos interesantes en pelis y series para animarlos más tarde. ¡Esto va a ser increíble! Gracias a todos por vuestra ayuda este trimestre. La semana que viene publicaré mi progress reel actualizada.

Class 3 – Week 10

Hello guys! How is it going? I haven’t had too much time to work on my animation this week but I’ve managed to do a first refining pass. Hopefully we still have one more week to really polish it down and make it shine! I’d love to know what you think about it so comments are welcome!
¡Buenas! ¿Qué tal va todo? No he tenido mucho tiempo esta semana para trabajar en mi animación pero me las he apañado para hacer un primer refining pass. Al menos todavía tenemos una semana más para trabajar en la toma y que quede lo mejor posible. ¡Decidme qué os parece!

Class 3 – Week 9

What a week! It’s been difficult to juggle animating, working and going to Sol to fight for a better democracy! I wish I had had more time to tweak my animation, but luckily we still have two weeks for this shot! I had to change quite a few things that my mentor suggested, so if you compare this version to the one from last week you are going to see quite a few changes. I believe that this one is working much better but there are still a ton of things I need to address. Once again, I want to thank all my buddies in AM because they have given me amazing feedback this week! Keep it up, guys!
¡Vaya semana! Ha sido difícil poder dividirme para animar, trabajar e ir a Sol a luchar por una democracia más justa. Ojalá hubiera tenido más tiempo para trabajar en mi animación, pero afortunadamente todavía nos quedan dos semanas para esta toma. Tuve que cambiar bastantes cosas que sugirió mi mentor, así que si comparáis esta versión con la de la semana anterior veréis bastantes detallitos. Creo que esta funciona mucho mejor pero todavía hay muchas cosas en las que tengo que trabajar. Quiero dar las gracias a todos mis compañeros de AM pues me han dado muy buen feedback esta semana. ¡Seguid así chicos!

Class 3 – Week 8

Hellooooooooo! Last blocking for Class 3! With this shot I really want to practise working with really heavy objects, trying to convey how much they weigh with the animation. It’s very similar to what we did with the two bouncing balls at the beginning of Class 1, but a bit more difficult! I still want to add some more things here and there, before moving to blocking plus and the following steps of the awesome process of animating!

¡Buenas! ¡Último blocking para la Class 3! Con esta toma quiero practicar trabajando con objetos muy pesados, intentando transmitir esa sensación de peso por la animación y no por lo grande o pequeño que sea el objeto. Es algo similar a lo que hicimos con las dos bouncing balls al principio de la Class 1, pero un poco más difícil. Todavía quiero añadir algunas cosas aquí y allí, antes de pasar a blocking plus y a los siguientes pasos del proceso de animar.

Class 3 – Week 7

I’ve just uploaded my assignments for this hectic week! It’s been crazy! As you know not only did we have to finish polishing the last shot but we also had to plan the next one, which will be the last one for this Body Mechanics term and then we’ll start with Acting!
Here you have my polish pass, there are some issues I still want to address, specifically about the way he falls down.
Acabo de subir mis assignments para esta semana tan ocupada. ¡Ha sido una locura! Como sabréis, no sólo teníamos que terminar de pulir la última animación sino que también teníamos que preparar la siguiente, que será la última para este trimestre de Mecánica del Cuerpo y después comenzaremos con Acting.
Aquí tenéis el polish pass, hay algunos problemas que todavía quiero retocar, especialmente en la manera en la que se cae.
For the next shot, Stewie will appear in the vault of the museum and he will try to lift a very heavy and antique relic but it will eventually fall down because it is really heavy. Here you have the planning sketches and the videoreference for the shot!
Para la próxima toma, Stewie aparecerá en la cámara del museo e intentará coger una antigua reliquia muy pesada pero que se acabará cayendo por su peso. Aquí tenéis los sketches de planning y la videoreferencia para esta shot.

Class 3 – Week 6

Today’s a remarkable day because I’m exactly at the middle point of my Animation Mentor journey. I’ve been studying and meeting awesome people in this amazing online school for the last 3.5 terms and I still have 3.5 terms to keep on learning, laughing, having tons of fun and meeting great friends! Congrats to all of you who have made it so far and thank you again for being there always and being so so encouraging! I can’t believe how fast time is passing by.
Hoy es un día para señalar en el calendario porque estoy exactamente en la mitad de mi aventura en Animation Mentor. He estado estudiando y conociendo gente maravillosa en esta gran escuela online los últimos tres trimestres y medio y todavía me quedan otros tres y medio para seguir aprendiendo, riendo, pasándolo genial y haciendo grandes amigos. Felicidades a todos los que habéis llegado hasta aquí y gracias de nuevo por estar ahí siempre y ser tan alentadores. ¡No puedo creer que deprisa pasa el tiempo!
This week, I’ve been adding more breakdowns to my animation. I’ve worked on the fall and final swing specially in order to make it as believable as possible. I’m quite happy with it but I still want to adress some notes. Luckily I still have one week more to work on it, but I’ll have to prepare the next shot also, so next week is going to be a busy one!
Esta semana he estado añadiendo más breakdowns a mi animación. He trabajado en la caída y en el balanceo final para hacerlos lo más creíbles posibles. Estoy bastante contento con el resultado de momento, aunque todavía quiero retocar bastantes cosas. Afortunadamente todavía me queda una semana más para trabajar en ello, pero al tener que preparar también la próxima toma esta semana voy a estar muy muy ocupado.

Class 3 – Week 5

As usual, every new blocking is more challenging than the previous one! Since the moment I thought about this idea, I’ve been a bit reluctant towards animating a guy balancing on a wire/pipe because I thought it would be really difficult. That’s why I chose this shot to be the next one for Class 3! What could be more challenging than to animate what you think would be the most difficult? I’m quite happy with it but I know there are still lots to tweak and improve! Let me know what you think!
Como de costumbre, cada nuevo blocking es más desafiante que el anterior. Desde que pensé en esta idea, siempre he estado un poco reacio a animar a un personaje haciendo equilibrio en una cuerda, ya que pensé que sería muy difícil. Por eso es por lo que me decidí a animar esa mecánica en la Class 3. ¿Qué es más desafiante que animar lo que crees que es más difícil? Estoy bastante contento con el blocking, pero todavía queda mucho por pulir y mejorar. ¡Decidme qué os parece!

Class 3 – Week 4

Yaaaaaaaaaaay! I am in! I got accepted for the Siggraph Student Volunteer Program and I’ll be travelling to Vancouver, Canada from the 2nd to the 12th of August! This is going to be a very very big adventure and I’m sure I’ll meet lots of interesting people! The only thing left to do is to figure out how I am going to coordinate animating my assignments, partying, meeting people, working at Siggraph, visiting Vancouver and sleeping. But hey, I’m sure I can manage!
¡Yaaaaaaaaaaay! ¡Estoy dentro! Me han aceptado para el programa de estudiantes voluntarios de Siggraph y me iré a Vancouver, Canadá del 2 al 12 de Agosto. Esta va a ser una gran gran aventura y estoy seguro de que voy a conocer a montones de gente interesante. Ahora ya sólo queda pensar como voy a coordinar animar, ir de fiesta, conocer gente, trabajar en Siggraph, visitar Vancouver y dormir. Pero bueno, estoy seguro de que me las puedo apañar.
Other than that, this has been the busiest week ever so far! I had to polish a lot of stuff in my shot to really make it shine, but I’m quite happy with the results! Check it out!
Aparte de eso, esta ha sido la semana más dura y en la que he estado más ocupado de todo AM. He tenido que pulir muchas cosas de mi animación para que quedara bien, pero bueno, estoy bastante contento con los resultados. ¡Echadle un vistazo!
Besides, I have been working on preparing the second shot that will follow the one above. Stewie will appear on a room with a horizontal pipe that he will have to cross in order to get out of there. However, he loses his balance and plummets to a certain death! What will happen to him? We’ll discover that in the third and final shot. Here you have the videoreference and the planning sketches I have been working on.
Además, he estado trabajando en preparar la segunda toma que seguirá a la anterior. Stewie aparecerá en una habitación con una tubería horizontal que tendrá que cruzar para salir de ahí. Sin embargo, perderá su equilibrio y caerá al vació hacia una muerte segurda. ¿Qué le pasará? Descubriremos eso en la tercera y toma final. Aquí tenéis la videoreferencia y los sketches de planificación en los que he estado trabajando.

Class 3 – Week 3

Blocking plus! I have decided not to switch to splines yet because I really wanted to push the poses much more and make sure that this was working before pressing the panic button! I’ve accelerated the run and worked on the swing at the very end. My new mentor is being really helpful and I’m learning tons with him! I hope I’ll make a lot of progress this term.
Next week is going to be pretty tough as we have not only to push this shot to its final stage but to plan and shoot video-reference for the next one! That’s why I’m going to take a small break to regain some strength. Besides, Portal 2 is coming out on Tuesday (or maybe Monday) so I’m going to have a hard time not losing a lot of time playing it!

Blocking plus! He decidido no cambiar a spline mode todavía ya que quería retocar las poses mucho más y estar seguro de que funcionaban bien antes de pulsar el botón del pánico. He acelerado cuando corre y trabajado en la parte en la que se balancea al final. Mi nuevo mentor está siendo de gran ayuda y estoy aprendiendo mucho con él. ¡Espero progresar mucho este trimestre!
La semana que viene va a ser bastante dura ya que no sólo tenemos que acabar esta animación, sino que tenemos que planear y grabar video-referencia para la próxima. Por ello me voy a tomar un pequeño descanso ahora para recobrar fuerzas. Además, el martes (o lunes quizás) sale el Portal 2 y me va a ser difícil no perder demasiado tiempo jugando.
